3 steps to learn a competitive start/dive
(freestyle, butterfly and breastroke) To do a competitive start there are three
main things you need to practice: The starting position is very similar to a start in a track. One leg should behind your body in line with
your hips and the other leg should be in front at the edge of the blocks., also in line with
your hips. The toes of the front foot should be hugging
the block. The hands should be grabbing the blocks. Your hips should be higher than your head. This is what a good starting position looks
like. After the “take your marks” command you should get all of your muscles tense and ready
to explode. You might want to lean back a little to create
a slingshot effect. After the gunshot or the beep, the main point
is to stretch your whole body as fast as possible. Your back foot should push straight or you
will jump sideways, your hands should push back and then get in a streamline in the air. Finally your front foot will generate most
of the speed, so push hard with it. You will decide which foot to put in front
depending on what feels more comfortable to you. You should push like if you wanted to reach
the other side of the pool, neither the ceiling nor the floor. Once you have pushed and you are in the air, get in a tight streamline. Your streamline should be almost horizontal
to the water surface. Gravity will take you to the perfect angle
to enter with your hands first and then the rest of your body. Your body will enter at a 30 degree angle. Once your body is in the water you should
quickly get in a horizontal position again. This change in direction will generate speed
that you can use to move forward. If you want to learn some drills in order
