Additional funding for aquatic center


SO FAR, 22 OTHER STATES HAVE PASSED SIMILAR LEGISLATION. A COUNT ON 2 UPDATE. THE CITY OF NORTH CHARLTON APPROVED ANOTHER $1 MILLION FOR A NEW AQUATIC’S CENTER THEY’RE BUILDING WITH DOOR CHESTER. STEPHANIE MILLER HAS MORE ON THE PROJECT AND TELLS US WHAT THAT MONEY WILL BE USED FOR. Reporter: NORTH CHARLTON OWEFFICIAL SAID THEY HAVE BEEN — SOME OF THE WALLS OF THE BUILDING GOING UP BEHIND ME. AND NOW EVEN MORE FUNDING WAS APPROVED LAST NIGHT BY CITY COUNCIL FOR THIS PROJECT. AS CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES TO THE NORTH CHARLESTON AQUATIC CITY, THE PARK AND REC. DIRECTOR SAYS THE PROJECT IS A LITTLE BIT DELAY. WE LOST DAYS BACK IN DECEMBER WHERE WE HAD QUITE A BIT OF RAIN. I THINK WE LOST 40 DAYS IN THERE. WE’VE HAD GREAT WEATHER LATELY THOUGH SO THEY’RE PICKING UP QUITE A BIT OF TIME. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO OPEN LATE THIS YEAR. BAR FIELD SAID THAT MORE FUNDING IS REQUIRED FOR THE PROJECT NOW. AND LAST NIGHT, CITY COUNCIL APPROVED IT. A LITTLE MORE THAN AN ADDITIONAL $1 MILLION WILL BE USED FOR A TIMING SYSTEM FOR NEW TILE AND SWIMMING MEETS. WHEN YOU’RE LOOKING AT NATIONALS AND BRINGING WORLD EVENTS TO NORTH CHARLESTON, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE IT MEETS OUR NEEDS. THE CENTER WILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, BUT STUDENTS WILL BE GIVEN PRIORITY ACCESS. BAR FIELD SAID HE’S EXCITED ABOUT THE FUTURE OF THE FACILITY.
