Aquatic Center to be built in North Charleston

THE AQUATIC CENTER SHARED BY THE CITY OF NORTH CHARLESTON AND DORCHESTER DISTRICT TWO WILL BE BUILT ON PATRIOT BOULEVARD… NEAR FORT DORCHESTER HIGH SCHOOL. INITIAL PLANS SHOW A 50 METER COMPETITION POOL WITH TEN LANES… THAT CAN BE SPLIT IN HALF FOR TWO EVENTS AT THE SAME TIME. A SECOND 25 METER POOL IS ALSO PLANNED… ALONG WITH ONE THOUSAND SEATS. NORTH CHARLESTON MAYOR KEITH SUMMEY SAYS CONSTRUCTION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN.. BY JANUARY FIRST. “This is going to offer opportunity to so many young people and older people. They have pool access. It’s a great way to exercise, but we also will use it to bring events in. It will bring people to the Lowcountry. We have so many swim teams locally and they always have to travel to be in events. Now we will bring those folks to us. But at the end of the day it’s about giving opportunity to children to learn how to swim.” THE PROJECT WILL COST 20 MILLION DOLLARS. NORTH CHARLESTON WILL PAY ABOUT 60 PERCENT. D-D-2… WHICH WILL HAVE PRIORITY USE OF THE FACILITY… WILL PAY THE REST.
