Hi, I’m Samantha with Sharks and Minnows
Swim School and I want to talk to you a little bit about getting your child comfortable in
the water. The first thing that you want to do when you’re getting your child comfortable
and teaching your child to swim is make sure that they know how to hold their breath. So
what we’re going to do first is talk a little about cueing. You want to make sure that your
child knows what’s going to happen and is able to close their mouth and hold their breath.
So the first thing that you can do is you can use the cue 1, 2, 3 and sprinkle water
over your child’s face. Like this, ready 1, 2, 3, very good, blow it out, good girl.
You can either use verbal cues, as well as visual cues. So after you say 1, 2, 3, show
them how to hold their breath. You can use your hand to pour the water or you can use
a cup or a ball like we have here. You want to get enough water on the child’s face
so that they know what’s going to happen. Ready, 1, 2, 3, good girl. You want to praise
every effort that your child makes. As soon as you’re confident that they’re taking
the cue in holding their breath, now we can actually start having them go underwater.
What we’re going to do is a slow submerging, you want to hold your child about arms length
away from you. You’re going to give them the cue and bring them under in a slow U shape
motion. Like this, ready, 1, 2, 3, you can take a big step back and then bring them right
up to your shoulder. Very good, blow it out and that’s how you get your child comfortable
going underwater.
very good …mmmmmm indeed!!!
the little girl is so cute.
My 8yr old nephew is scared to death to go underwater. I tried to do that technique and he just kicked and screamed. He has no problem with pouring water over his face. He just doesn't want his head submerged underwater.
I should like to see swimming lessons for adults.
Teaching Adults is the same as kids you just don't tuch the adults … audlts are not as easy to teach as kids..
I agree. I took swimming lesson this summer and I saw how easily children learn to swim.
that lil kid has that weird hairstyle on pro evo lol
and looks cute.
yeah shes cute as hell, the girl is lucky cuz sometimes you get the bigass hairy chested yelling kind of coach that teach you how to swim by making ur life impossible.
yup, the earlier the better – my nephews had baby swimming lessons (basically just bringing along the babies and making them float and splash around in warm water) so they never forgot how to swim. they never had to learn how to hold their breath either because they still knew how. They are 7 and 8 years old now and both swim (ski, play ice-hockey, rock-climb and play the piano) really well. It was great watching them when they were babies, just put them in the bath tub and they were happy
well howcome i still dont now how to swim
Beautyful Voice
figure too
wow training little kids is like having puppies…..
focus plz lol
how old are you
because i want to teach my little sister how to swim! cool vid anyways!!
tell what?
you dont
i disagree about the CPR/First aid. Yes it really helps to know these sorts of things but I was taught by my parents I was watched carefully and was always in the shallow end and I ended up a team member on my school's swimming team. I don't think it's a crime to teach your child basic swimming techniques. Of course if you want them to learn more advanced moves they should seek an instructor. But teaching them to paddle and understand how to hold their breath isn't rocket science.
Why not??
I hope you're not saying that because you feel you're better than that little girl. Of all the billions of people in the world everyone can't be like you. Everyone has their own talents and short comings.
"Good girl" Sounds like you're training a dog.
@xtle1: You can use behavioral conditioning to teach an infant to hold their breath, no need for conversation with them. Blowing in an infant's face will cause them to automatically hold their breath. You can pair this with a verbal cue, and they will soon start to associate breath holding with the cue alone. Read up on Pavolvian conditioning, and that should explain it. I've been teaching kids to swim since 2003 and have worked with infants for two years. =)
@xtle1 *Pavlovian. Sorry, writing an exam and brain is fried.
i kno. rite?
@mynameswho lmfao
I signed my 3 year old up 3 weeks ago for lessons and he was afraid so he quit after one lesson but sat at the pool and watched. Last Saturday I watched these series of videos with him and today he totally shocked me. He began to float and was letting me hold him on the water with his head in .. gonna sign hiim back up for lessons now. These videos were very helpful
she's very gentle indeed..today I saw some male instructor giving hell to a 6 year old child that he was crying all the time..freaking idiot!
"Good girl"
"Blow it out"
She is training a dog or a hooker… NOT A SWIMMER!
I am 8 year old me and my brother taught ourselves how to swim in a in a mini spa whirlpool hot tub underwater
thumbs up if ypou heard "tiled" instead of child.
@mynameswho what do u want her to say? would you rather she called the kid a moron
She gave birth to a black kid!

@ritaking2011 To learn how to fully float and swim takes about 3-4 weeks 🙂
Thank you! This was perfect for introducing my son to the swimming pool!

The more she talks the more I fall in love.

That child is so well behaved and is a good swimmer.
