Lake Wendouree – Ballarat (Aquatic Weed Harvesting in Feb – 2019)

Aquatic weed harvesting at Lake Wendouree. Lake Wendouree is located in the center of Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. This lake has a capacity of 3,860 mega liters and a surface area of 220 hectares. Ample car park space and boat ramps to launch vessel. Fishing is a very popular activity and trout hatchery at Ballarat has released 6000 brown trouts in June 2018. Other attractions includes botanical gardens, walking, running, cycling trails, playgrounds, BBQ and picnic area. Water birds such as Swan and ducks can be found in abundance. However, feeding these birds is not advisable. Swimming is not allowed due to out of control growth of aquatic weed. Fishing sometimes gets bit hard due to the same factor. To maintain this lake as a major recreational facility for the community of Ballarat. A program has been developed for mechanical harvesting of the weed.
