Northern California Special Olympics Kick Off In Davis


ROLE IN THE OUTCOME OF THE
GAMES. THREE DAYS OF SPECIAL OLYMPICS,
AND IT ALL BEGINS TONIGHT WITH
THE PARADE OF ATHLETES AT THE
5,000 SEAT U.C. DAVIS CAMPUS
PAVILION.>>WE HAVE 1,050 ATHLETES AND
COACHES. REPORTER: THE ATHLETES HAVE BEEN
TRAINING ALL YEAR LONG WITH
THEIR COACHES. MOST DIDN’T TRAIN FOR THIS HEAT
WAVE, AND ARE HEARING THE
IMPORTANT WARNINGS NOW.>>DRINK A LOT OF WATER, STAY IN
THE SHADE AND ALWAYS KEEP COOL. REPORTER: PARENTS ARE WARNING
THEIR KIDS.>>ANYTIME SOMEBODY OFFERS YOU A
BOTTLE OF WATER, OR YOU PASS
ONE, PLEASE TAKE IT AND DRINK. SO YEAH I AM CONCERNED WITH IT,
BUT I THINK IF THEY STAY IN THE
SHADE AND THEY STAY HYDRATED AND
THEY HAVE THEIR LITTLE COOL RAGS
AND STUFF LIKE THAT, IT’LL BE

STAY COOL, SO ORGANIZERS HAVE

COACHES, VOLUNTEERS. WE’LL HAVE MISTERS AT MOST OF
OUR VENUES AND WE’VE NOTIFIED

LITTLE BIT EARLIER AND THEN END

NEWS IS, THE SWIMMING
COMPETITION WILL BE HELD ALL DAY
LONG FROM 9:00 A.M. TO 3:00 P.M. AT THE SCHAAL AQUATIC CENTER,
AND THAT SHOULD HELP KEEP THEM
COOL.>>EVEN THOUGH WE’RE IN THE
WATER AND WE COULD FACE 106-108
DEGREE TEMPERATURES HERE, IT’S
HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE ALL
