Sisters arrested in Fairfield Aquatic Center scuffle appear in court


SUSPECTS. SHEREE: THE TWO ADULT SISTERS ARRESTED IN A SCUFFLE AT THE FAIRFIELD AQUATIC CENTER WERE IN COURT THIS MORNING. THEIR SUPPORTERS SAY POLICE USED EXCESSIVE FORCE WHEN THEY USED PEPPER SPRAY AND HANDCUFFS TO BREAK UP A DISPUTE AT THE CITY POOL. IT’S VIDEO YOU SAW FIRST ON WLWT. NEWS FIVE’S ANDREW SETTERS SAYS THEIR LAWYER WANTS THE CHARGES DISMISSED. REPORTER: BOTH OF THEM WILL REMAIN FREE WHILE THE CASE MAKES ITS WAY THROUGH FAIRFIELD COURT. CRYSTAL DIXON APPEARED IN COURT WITH HER DEFENSE ATTORNEY BY HER SIDE. SHE IS CHARGED WITH DISORDERLY CONDUCT AND RESISTING ARREST, AS WELL AS HER SISTER. IF YOU LOOK AT THAT VIDEO. — IF YOU LOOK AT THAT VIDEO, EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT WHETHER SHE COMMITTED A CRIME IS RIGHT THERE IN THE VIDEO. FROM THE TIME SHE ARRIVED AT THE CENTER FROM THE TIME I SEE IS ARRESTED. REPORTER: HE SAYS POLICE HAD NO REASON TO ATTEMPT AN ARREST AND THEREFORE NO REASON TO CHARGE HER WITH EARTH — RESISTING. IF A PERSON IS BEHAVING IN AN ILLEGAL MANNER, YOU CANNOT JUST GRAB THEM. THAT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL. REPORTER: BENNETT SAYS SHE WAS NOT ASKED TO LEAVE THE POOL AND THAT POLICE DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO TELL HER TO LEAVE. IT IS — IF CONVICTED, BOTH WOMEN COULD FACE SEVERAL MONTHS IN LOCKUP. I WOULD ASK THE CITY OF FAIRFIELD TO DISMISS THE CHARGES AND FOR THE COMMUNITY TO MOVE ON. THE VIDEO CLEARLY INDICATES SHE WAS NOT COMMITTING THOSE CRIMES. A TRIAL IS FINE.
